Ron,
Did the "answer" from SCUSA surprise you? There is no way that they would have said anything more or less than the generic answer you received, and anybody familiar with the ways of the world knows this.
On the other hand, what is up with BMW, Audi, MB, etc.? Why are they putting apparantly "substandard" tires on their perfomance sedans?! Is it because they believe that their vehicles won't be pushed to 140mph+ (as we routinely do in our Saabs)? :O
Or perhaps high-quality H-rated tires actually render high performance and are absolutely safe...and for those anxious for better skid pad results and 10' less breaking distances, they can pick up the available sport packages.
Wait one minute. Does the answer lie in the sloppy handling of our Saabs (especially in our top-heavy wagons)--i.e. more sway, lean, body roll in corners necessitates the fractionally stiffer sidewalls of the V/Z? Perhaps? {Just doing a little advocating for the devil himself...]
;)
Paul
Not ready to buy tires just yet--but will make a good decision when the time comes...
