Attempting to remove the alternator from my 99 95. I know there has been a lot of posts regarding this but is almost impossible. I have removed 3 motor mounts, idler pulley, tension pulley, serp belt, front wheel, cat con, etc. I had a friend with a 3 foot crow bar pry the motor from frame while I tried to wiggle it out, I loosened subframe. I still need a half inch to clear it. This is crazy. Next I will go buy a metal blade for my Sawsall and cut away part of the frame to get extra clearance. I would use a grinder but I don't want to throw sparks everywhere. I have replaced at least ten alternators, rebuilt two diesels, etc. Never have I had so much trouble with something that should be so simple and routine. What if after I finish install I find I bought a bad rebuild? Saab could have any number of ways made it possible for easy, normal replacement. We are putting it for sale today. After this is over I will not let my girlfriend drive it , afraid that something else will go wrong before it is sold. Needless to say I will never even think about Saabs again. Sorry for the negativity but believe me it is warranted. I hope any prospective Saab owners really evaluate their purchase. You should spend some time reading through these posts before you make a decision to buy one. I wish I would have.
