and they probably have a reason for doing so.
IMHO, a synthetic makes sense for a turbo engine because it is more stable at higher temps than conventional oils and numerous tests have shown that it holds up better over time. That may not matter as much if you change conventional oil every 3K. YMMV.
It's also better environmentally to use a synthetic and change it less often. I figure changing synthetic every 6K (what I wind up averaging) costs about the same as using regular oil every 3K and I spend less time doing it. Works for me, and our cars are happy.
