That cant be right. the motor is easily accessible when you remove the glove box.
yes you can rig it in the "always fresh air" position.
And you can replace the motor yourself. if I recall it goes for about $300 US new, $70 us used.
btw its unusual for the motor to just die. pull the glove box and check the connection (un-connect and re-connect it). if that looks good, pull the motor and verify that the gears are seated properly. you might need to press the shaft back into the body of the motor.
are you getting a ACC code when you run diagnostics? (with engine running, press AUTO+OFF)
