I too live in N. Calif like one of the posts below, and yesterday I was driving the Nimitz Fwy through Oakland coming home from a trip. That simply will not happen again with my Aero! From experience I would say that you will likely detect a change (notice I did not say "improvement") with different shocks, but what you really seem to be looking for is something that will make the ride less harsh. Your least expensive option would be to fit 16" wheels which would allow you to fit tires with taller sidewalls. The narrow, low-profile sidewalls on the 45 series tires that come with the Aero are simply too rigid (out of necessity) to absorb bumps very effectively, and they are the source of much of the harshness. The taller sidewalls on 50, 55, or 60 series tires flex more and are thus less harsh. And if you really want to throw $ at it, you could simply install the non-Aero 9-5 springs, which are not only less stiff, but have increased travel. None of the aftermarket springs have either of those two qualities.
