Nick is right about the battery cover. On the passenger side, you need to work around some coolant hoses, but they are flexible enough to push aside. On my 2002 Arc, I pull the electrical plug straight back to get it off. Then, there is a spring clip that holds the bulb. You push it in (toward front of car) and move it slightly sideways. It will release and hinge away, and you can then pull the bulb straight out. Don't touch the glass of the new one with your fingers. Reassemble in reverse order.
And yes, I did my fair share of swearing while learning this.
