Run like hell from any 2003 9-3ss. I love Saabs and try not to dis the brand much (and I've never owned a 9-3) but everything I have read about them is that they are miserable cars for reliability and build quality. Tons of fun when they're not in the shop though. They did improve through the years so I wouldn't have as hard of a time buying a 2005+ 9-3.
As for the 9-5 V6, GO FOR IT! My first Saab was a 2001 9-5 V6. I bought it at 160k miles and sold it at 184k so it was expensive to maintain with that mileage but what an awesome car! 80k miles on a V6 isn't bad. Like LesH mentioned, watch for blue smoke on startup or after hard acceleration (see video link below). And make sure the timing belt AND tensioners were replaced at 60k miles. If there's any doubt as to either of them use it against them to negotiate and then replace them ASAP. In the 184k miles my car traveled it never had oil cooler problems, but it is a common V6 problem, though there's really no way to tell if it's imminent. Good luck!
