My wonderful 2002 Saab 95 (named "The Enterprise") w/ 101,902 miles has been experiencing an intermittent no start / no crank problem. Full power and lights, turn the key and only a slight 'click, click, click' near the left-side panel fuse box.
A locally known Saab mechanic (Mike) replaced the DICE after finding a small power drain; however problem persists. He suspects Starter or Starter relay. We have checked battery <load test passed> and cable connections <fine>, we have replaced the keys and recoded them <fine>. Turned off the alarm system (as there was a malfunction code?)
Saab Portland Maine was kind enough to fax through full service history of the vehicle prior to my purchase at 76,356 miles (thanks Jeff) and can see the Crank Sensor was replaced three years ago & the DI cassette five years ago.
Vehicle is leaving wife and two year old stranded at the zoo under no start scenario, requiring tow and the rate of incidents is increasing from weekly to daily. stranded at Best Buy last night. Car starts fine for mechanic -- all day long -- no codes, nor traceable power drains.
I have tried every mentioned trick. pressing key buttons while starting, moving shifting lever from Low to Drive then try starting, pulling all fuses (putting them back in in wrong slots, then the right slots) disconnecting battery, cleaning terminals nothing. tightening fuel cap. going into car with key entry. waiting ten minutes to half hour seems to be the only solution, except last night was one hour. Car started fine this AM.
I am having some difficultly trolling through previous threads for solutions this problem; many existing suggestions point to the Neutral Safety Switch (which mechanic has never seen go wrong) Crankshaft position sensor (but car won't even turnover) or the DI Cassette (could this have gone bad again.(replaced at 20,490 miles).. there was one recent incident of losing power and car dying, fortunately at 35mph on a quiet back road) it started right back up, has not presented itself again.
Does anyone have any suggestions? as we are more or less stranded (our only car) and scared to drive it.
Thanks!!
John
