Well, I've been using AMSOIL in my Saabs since 1977. Have run as much as 30,000 on a change. However, when I started getting turbos, I wasn't driving as much, and usually ended up changing yearly at 10-12,000 miles.
The AMSOIL recommended change interval is based on over 35 years and thousands of oil analysis reports. Since engines have gotten smaller (and hotter), often with less oil in them, AMSOIL recommends 12,500 miles or 6 months for severe driving. For vehicles prone to sludge-- some Audis, VWs, Chrysler/Dodge, Lexus/Toyota, and Saab, AMSOIL recommends draining at the manufacturer's regular drain intervals.
Your 2003 falls right into the "prone to sludge" category. I'd change it at 5000 miles, were it mine. If I couldn't, or wouldn't, use AMSOIL, Mobil 1 extended drain would be my choice (same drain interval)
