Yea I'm happy with the deal for sure..
After I crippled the brass fitting on the new Aero turbo intake pipe I got with the used air box assembly as a bonus, I figured it was scrap metal and was gong to use the original. I had tried to "unscrew" the brass PCV fitting to see if my 1999 banjo bolt would simply screw in and I squished it when twisting it out making it a tad oval and messed up.. no threads.. bummer.. didn't seem to fit back in tight anymore and I also broke the red plastic holder for PCV pipe fitting to push into..
After hearing how make it work for you to use the new design pipe, I started scratching my --- trying to figure out how to fix what I broke.. I thought maybe have the pipe hole welded and tapped to fit my 1999 banjo bolt and PCV pipe.. the opening in brass fitting was smaller than banjo bolt size so thought maybe tap it?.. got my tap and die set, no luck, american thread and only up to 1/2".. started digging around in tool box for my grandfather's, may he rest in peace, old inherited tools from pipefitting/plumbing career and I found some way old taps... I picked up a 5/8" x 18 and started screwing it into my old intake pipe where banjo bolt went and it seemed to screw in fairly easy and deep before getting tight? in a metric thread? hmmmmm.. Matched up to banjo bolt and pitch was real close but slightly off, but only after 5-6 threads..
What did I have to loose? I squished the brass fiting back to somewhat round and started working the tap.. had to file away some of inside before tap could catch as was a bit too snug, had a hard time getting tap straight because of this but finally did and cut the thread.. Banjo bolt semed to fit real nice after, but not alot of thread to catch to in the fitting due to way it is made smaller inside than opening, but seems enough to snup up tightly though..
I filed the munged up face of brass fitting to be flat again and smoothed the edges, alcohol cleaned both surfaces and assembled fitting using loctite 609 to bond tight and looks like a done deal, so long as I don't strip threads to tight should be good to go!
Thanks for the push to try and use it.. If you have your stock PCV pipe and a 5/8" 18 tap, or 16MM?? x ?? and want to redo what you did, may work for you also?
The 2 small lines are still on my new turbo, not sure if I should undo them for the sake of installing new copper rings or leave well enough alone? One line looks like may have weeped at one time? How did you know exact poosition to tighten them on bench so other end would fit right? That was my concern..
Cheers..
