I recently bought a 1998 SAAB 9-5 (automatic) with 116,000 km (about 72K mi) on it. The car runs fine generally, but in the first few minutes of driving it it hesitates to engage in drive. Looking at other posts, it appears that this is a problem with the valve body.
I only drive the car about 30 miles a week (short trips to the store, etc.) and, aside from it being annoying, I don't mind dealing with the problem.
My question is, if I don't mind the slight annoyance, is this a problem that I can ignore or is this something that is eventually going to destroy my transmission? I am hoping that the car will last me for another year and a half - I bought the car for about US$1500 (my wife thinks I'm nuts but I love SAABs) so I'm not interested in preserving the resale value, I'm just wondering whether it can limp along for another ~5000 miles without needing this expensive repair.
Thanks in advance for any help.
