I had a black Mazda 323 GTX for 10 years, and now I have a black Aero Wagon. I guess I will never learn! I love the color when it is clean and scratch free - it is simply stunning with the BBS wheels. That is the problem - keeping it that way. It shows _every_ little bit of debris that lands on it.

I noticed that the Saab black shows waterspots really badly, especially on the large horizontal surfaces like the hood and roof. I think it is a big mistake to not wax the car as soon as you get it home. I know what Saab says - but you will regret it if you leave the paint vulnerable for 6 months. It is also important to dry those horizontal surfaces as often as possible when it has standing water on it. The _only_ way to do that without scratching a dirty car is with compressed air.

I use a Griot's Garage horsehair brush that attaches to the garden hose - the water flushes the dirt away to reduce scrtaching. Then I do a normal wash with a sheepskin mitt. Even so, I still get fine scratches that show up in strong sunlight. They are in the wax though - when I rewax the finish looks perfect.

I am really anal about this car - I blow it dry with compressed air and then use a detail spray on it to make it gleam.

If you want the car to look nice over the years and are willing to fuss with it constantly, buy the black. If not, I suggest a less finicky color.
