Finally there's hope that replacement parts will be less expensive down the road.
It's decent business plan for amortizing new model development: if they can let the Chinese factories mass produce old designs at lower price point, the model cycles for the premium branch of the business can be shorter. Mercedes tried to do something like that with the Chrysler brand, except Mercedes designs were so crappy that few people would buy cars with the terrible MB designs wearing Chrysler badge. Now Mercedes has to look to Toyota for platform sharing in order to justify product development cost and still have a reasonable product cycle. If Koenigseg-Saab can pull it off with a growing Chinese market (as opposed to the declining Chrysler in a saturated US market like MB tried), it may just work out far better for Saab than the decade-long model cycles that we have had with the current 9-5 and the previous NG900~9-3.
