Well to answer your many questions I have to take you back about a year. The RF wheel bearing went bad. I don't know why; only that it happened. When the bearing was replaced it was noticed that the replacement, purchased from Advance Auto Parts and correct for the model, fit into the knuckle very loosely. The mechanic who did the work was not a SAAB mechanic and did not know if this was normal or not.
Everything worked fine for about six months. Then the bearing went bad again. I replaced it myself, but again it fit loosely. This time the bearing came from Autozone. Not all was well this time. When reassembling the various components I noticed that not everything fit properly. The cv-joint/axle assembly wouldn't draw all the way up to the knuckle even when the axle nut was tightened with an impact wrench. This left a small gap between the two and caused a slight wobble with the wheel which somehow led to a bolt backing out of the brake caliper. It came loose at the top and became caught in the wheel. Thus I had the car towed.
The company that towed the car also worked on it this time and told me knuckle/hub/bearing assembly needed to be replaced. They did the work and I took it to be aligned and was told the knuckle was bent. Clearly this guy didn't know what he was talking about. It's made from cast iron. He also said he could not do an alignment to fix that issue.
I discovered that things were out of position when I compared the right and left sides. The strut works properly and doesn't make any strange noises. Everything looks to be assembled properly, but the strut hangs about .25in. from the cv boot and the wheel doesn't stand vertically. There is no indication of any kind of damage to the knuckle or anything else. I can't afford to take it to a dealer, but I don't know what else to do.
