With the car running pull the fuse for the radio over in the fuse panel on the driver's end of the dash and reinsert it. This can sometimes smack the radio into behaving again. Otherwise, I'm not really sure what to tell you. I have taken mine out a couple times and it has always worked. 9-5's do have a "code" in the head unit, that it just matches to the ECU and VIN of the car and you never need to enter it when you're just removing and reinstalling the radio in the same car. This just prevents someone from wanting to steal your radio because it won't work in any other car unless it was divorced from the "donor" car and married to the new car.
By the way... HVAC control module? Are you referring to the control panel with the buttons and screen? Was it not working? I have been looking for a cheap non-working unit because I broke the clips that hold mine into the dash and want to swap the electronic guts out of mine into a housing that has its clips intact. If this is the case and you're willing to part ways with it... could you send me an e-mail? Thanks!
