Since I got my 2002 Arc wagon in late 2001, I have seen a fair number of postings about the V6. A fair number of them apparently assume the 9-5 V6 is the same engine as the earlier V6 from the Saab 9000. There are people on this board far more expert than I, but it appears the 9-5 V6 is either a totally different engine, or a vastly improved engine.
You will find lots of comments about how smooth, torquey and reliable the 9-5 V6 is, and how important it is to replace the timing belt and other components every 60k.
In 8 years, I have had no engine problems at all with my car, now at 95k miles.
