In 70K worth of driving as second owner, now at 102K, I've replaced a radiator and an oil cooler - all told about $3k. And I need another oil cooler! Creamy coolant is a tell-tale sign and I have it again. Mechanic graciously agreed to eat the labor on the next job.
Oh yeah, head gaskets go on these, too. Not just one but two - like a $2500 job.
And the timing belt that only lasts 60K. Sure, Saab picks up the first. But the tensioners and pulleys are of such inferior build they must be replaced too, for like $500. My next timing belt job at 120K will be a cool $1K. Yay! Not me.
Not to mention the heater blend door issue.
And the ABS control module issue.
And the alarm issue.
And I know I'm forgetting something...
Avoid, dude. Avoid. I salute the Saab enthusiasts on this board. But you're nuts if you buy the 3.0 engine.
