might want to make sure 0-40 is in the motor when below freezing temps hit. 0-40 is a great oil for cold motor start-ups and it will not give any excess engine wear. all others, 5-40 / 5-50 will be equivalent to pancake syrup causing slight engine wear,10-30 / 10-40 would be equivalent as molasses with great engine wear at below 32 degrees. i bet in Canada you can get pretty cold in the winter, running 0-40 is a thin oil excellent for winter, using 5-40 or 5-50 in winter would only cause excess motor wear that can be totally avoided.
i hear 5-50 is a decent oil some say the degree of the oil is to far off, and others who use it swears by it however the people using this motor oil are putting it into pre 2000 cars and diesel motors. personally if there are reports of people who dislike it id do more digging into the 5-50 grade to find why it is some have a problem with it before i put it in my motor.
i say run the grade you want with synthetic in the summer with a m1-102 filter and be at 0-40 when winter hits. :) (for the 9-5 motor that is)
