You can take the old rotors into a local auto parts store to get them "turned". This will take away any ridges and make the surface smooth and in-round for the new pads. The shop will mic them to ensure you have enough room to work with prior to turning them. Cost less than $20 per rotor.
I usually buy new rotors every other pad replacement with this process.
