A few weeks ago I posted about some seemingly excessive vibrations and thunking and whatnot from my 2003 Aero (154k). Mostly while shifting (stick) but also just when getting on or off the gas. Got advice to replace engine mounts and look into the Genuine Saab sport transmission mount.

I ordered the passenger side engine mount and upper transmission mount from eEuro. Ordered on a Thursday morning, they arrived via free shipping the following day. Love their shipping.

Installed them that weekend. Both are pretty simple jobs, nothing difficult access bolts and whatnot assuming you have a typical set of sockets, extensions, etc. I didn't have any wood lying around so I used a piece of sturdy cardboard folded over a couple times between the jack and the oil pan & transmission. Worked fine. The entire job including setup and cleanup took 1.5 hours.

There was a general all around improvement in smoothness from these (the old right side mount had a lot of play in it) but nothing drastic.

Installed the Sport Transmission Mount from Genuine Saab today. Holy moly, that's gotta be the best $30 I've ever spent. Maybe the $20 Crystal View headlight kit comes close. Install was relatively simple though I did need to remove 2 bolts & loosen 1 from the bracket on the transmission to allow me to move the mount down to get the bolt out. Once that was done, the old rubber part came right out and the new one slid right in. Tightened everything up and I was on my way.

Shifter and clutch action are both markedly improved. Most drastic is the near complete elimination of a shuddering I used to get whenever I got on the throttle from idle, or when taking my foot off the gas. An amazing improvement from something so seemingly simple. No increase in vibrations from the engine, at idle or otherwise. I should have done this years ago.

If you have a stick shift 9-5 I cannot recommend the Genuine Saab transmission mount enough.
