Potential causes of no crank situation?? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 8 Dec 2011 15:53:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2000 lpt sedan with automatic and 314,000+ miles
Tonight, for the second time in six weeks or so, I had a "no crank" situation when attempting to start the car. The first case was solved by removing the key and attempting to start again. The car started immediately.
Tonight I attempted starting by cycling to off then to start, no luck. I removed the key and reinserted then tried to start, no luck. I removed the key a second time and reinserted, jiggled the selector lever then tried to start, success!
The SID is fully functional and no "replace key battery" message was displayed.
I am suspecting the Neutral Safety Switch but I don't want to start throwing $300 parts at the problem (assuming these switches are even available again) on a hunch.
Is there a way to test the NSS or key cylinder to pinpoint the solution?
Thanks,
