different tires wear differently, and at 1/2 their useful life that can show... which gislaveds/contis? that also makes a difference... that said, different vehicles also behave differently.
We have Michelin PA3 Alpins on the 9-5 (2004 arc) this year, and I'm really pretty underwhelmed. Got them used, 1 season old, >7mm (brand new is 8.2mm iirc)... More of a touring winter tire than xice, but same tread depth new. grip on ice and slush is not great, at least compared to what I'm used to with hakkas.
This winter has been light for snow here, so I didn't even bother putting the hakkas on the c900. The crummy old goodyear snows I'm wearing out have done ok on that car, and that car has been mostly better than the Michelins on the 9-5, even though the goodyears are down near 4mm. The c900 tires are narrower also. c900s love snow!
how much is the car? how much is the tire? hard to say... next year, the 9-5 gets hakkas + then I will have a better idea!
