Hi All,
My 2002 9-5 Aero (77K miles; manual trans.) has been giving me fits lately: difficult cold starts and misfire/skipping under light throttle. Yesterday I was able to get the codes pulled after a CEL,. and they read p0171 and p0455. So it *seems* I have perhaps some vacuum line issues, a faulty mass air flow sensor, *or* a bad purge valve solenoid.
I've cleaned the MAF using MAF spray; that didn't have an effect. Perhaps the MAF is bad itself.
But what might be the driveability issues associated with an evap purge valve solenoid gone bad, sticking in the closed position? I ask because I also tried spraying it with throttle-body cleaner, giving it a good shake, doing this several times.
Is there a way to actually *test* the solenoid? I did try connecting a wire to the positive battery terminal, and touching the other end to the solenoid connector tabs--one then the other--but heard and felt nothing in the solenoid. But is that how you would test it?
I've not yet had time to get under the car and check the vacuum line running back to the evap canister, or the valve at that end.... Frankly, I'm not sure how to isolate the problems, and I hate to start replacing things willy-nilly.
best wishes,
David
