Rear light failure - one last question

I have had a "rear light failure" note on my 2001 Aero sedan for almost two years now, with the first notice popping up when dealing with a wet TWICE unit. I checked the normal things: making sure the bulbs where the correct, matched ones and checking the wiring at the trunk and everything seemed fine. All the lights turned one and there wasn't any corrosion evident in the bulb sockets. Today, i realized that the license plate lights just might be part of that system and, sure enough, they were both out. There is evidence that these buggers get pretty hot as the socked surrounds almost looked wet as the head had shined them up some. Problem found, right? I replaced the bulbs, they now work, and the warning still shows up. I'm stuck. Could an issue with the TWICE unit actually trip the warning on the SID yet have all the lights function? I may be stuck with this little annoyance forever but any insight would be appreciated.
