It's important that the bulbs have good contact at the socket. They will light but still cause a problem. That happened to me with a brake light. Finally I walked around looking for dim bulbs and found one when my wife stepped on the brake and one side was dimmer than the other. Cleaned the socket and made sure the bulb was in there tight. Problem solved.
