Thanks Herb,

I thought possibly low oil was causing the low pressure as the light fades in an out as if the oil level is barely adequate for the sump to pick up. I am thinking the sump must be so far down in the pan that the care would almost have to be dry for this to happen.

Do the pressure sending units ever act in this way?

I am definitely going to test the pressure using a guage.
