Volvo just use 4 big rubber cushions with bigger bolts and bigger washers in each corner of the subframe.
It's a similar design as the 9-5 but better made is some ways.
Since all three motor mounts are resting on the subframe, it's neat when you drop the power train down since everything stays there on the subframe steering rack and all.
I don't think it would be a good idea to bolt the subframe solid to car body but certainly possible if proper spacers were made to fit in the frame.
At the same time you could get rid of the wimpy motor mounts and place solid rubber blocks (ala 60s and 70s) between engine and car body to stiffen up that too.
