How did that bronze bushing fit on the ball pin?
The idea looks ok but if it isn't a good snap fit when you push it over the ball pin, the cable could technically pop off again.
Many and most shifter cables when the nylon bushing is toast is configured in such a way that just the weight of the cable lets it stay on the shift lever ball pin and you only notice some slop in the gear shifter.
But just recently I had one where the shift cable had a slight twist to it so as soon as the nylon bushing was gone, the cable eyelet pops off the ball pin and left you with a no shift situation.
So if that bronze bushing doesn't fit with a snap, it would not work in this particular case.
What I ended up doing was to use a piece of rubber tubing inside the plastic eyelet housing that made it fit snug on the ball pin and then manufacture a S-shaped sheetmetal piece with a hole drilled that fit over the shifter shaft going through the gear selector switch and held in place with the 13mm nut.
That metal piece is not resting right over the shifter cable stopping it from popping off the ball pin.
