I agree with Jeff, AFAIK there are exactly zero 0W-40 semi-syn or syn blends made. You simply can't get down to the "0W-" end in a blend.
The whole switching thing is a myth. I've switched multiple cars over at various mileages:
1) My 1990 C900 was switched to full syn at 120k mi & now has 273k mi on it.
2) I switched my son's 1985 C900 over to full syn at 150k mi, until he sold it at 200k mi.
3) My wife's 2002 9-3 flip-flopped between conventional, semi-syn & full syn with the previous owners when we bought it at 60k mi, has seen nothing but full syn since then, & has 128k mi on it now.
4) My daughter's 2002 Ford Focus was switched at 140k mi & now has 160k mi on it.
None of these cars developed any new or greater leaks than what they started with, & neither of the 2002 cars have any leaks at all.
