DI modules on 9-5s

I was wondering if the entire range of og9-5 1999-2009 has DI modules in their engines. It seems so from my research so far. Is it similar to the 9k line where some of them didn't have DIs? I guess the V6 engines have a different setup with two DIs and I hear they are a little more reliable but still prone to failure.
The DI is one feature of my 9k that I can definitely do without, especially now that the future availability is in doubt or of questionable quality. 9k drivers have a habit of carrying a spare cassette in their trunks and I imagine this tradition carried over into the 9-5 ownership. I would love to upgrade to a 9-5 but just thinking of the dreaded DI always gives me pause. How reliable were the later versions, there was supposed to be a software update to cure sudden death but I've heard they still continue to fail with no warning. How much better is the V6 in that sense?
thanks,
Paul
