Someone siphoned my gasoline.

OK, I had a nearly full gas tank with 70 miles on it. Went to a restaurant to have dinner. Heading home and notice the low-fuel light was on and gauge showed near the bottom. I assumed the fuel gauge was broken. The DTE indicator showed 41 miles to empty. I drove around Sunday a bit and it then said 17 miles until empty. Filled it up and it took 16.874 gallons! I can see no signs of prying the gas tank door open. Whatever they did to steal my gasoline, they nearly emptied the tank. I guess the gas cover isn't part of the alarm system. Any ideas how they siphoned the tank without any apparent danage to the car and the car was locked. What items does the factory alarm monitor? Thinking of adding the filler cover to the list.
