Vacuum hose diameter - mixing sizes

Somewhere I have some leftover 3mm hose that I previously used. Now I've got some 4mm. Elkparts says the OEM is 3.4mm and suggest that 3mm is a better fit because it can't slip off like the 4mm might.
Should I swap the 4mm for 3mm hose? Is there any advantage or disadvantage to the 3mm? Or should I get the 3.5mm HPS brand hose?
Can I mix 3mm with 4mm on the same car?
Does brand matter. I got Samco last time, but Turbosmart is easy to get as it's on Amazon. Turbosmart offers 3 and 4 mm, but not 3.5mm. The hose wall thickness might be different. Samco specs 2mm wall thickness. I can't find a spec for Turbosmart.
If I recall, there was one vacuum hose I didn't change last time. It hooks up near where the one going to the coolant bypass valve is and then goes down to somewhere behind the engine or so it seems Anyone know where that one goes and if I'll be able to reach the other end from above?
