I used all 4mm dia. Silicone From GenuineSaab. They fit perfectly. Should not matter if 3 or 4 mm what you DON'T want are leaks and broken hoses, they will sap the engine power.. The 3 mm hoses or 3.5mm are just harder to get on and will stretch more at the barb, therefore may not be as durable. I tracked the hose that runs behind the engine you mention, it contains the red/white check valve. I did not replace this as the original hose was still quite pliable and in very good condition, unlike all the others that were broken and crumbling. This hose is further away from the engine heat, and lower in elevation under the hood...cooler. Probably will last life of the car. You can see it better from underneath using flashlight and mirror. But it looks like a pain to replace.
