Considering 2002 9-5 Wagon have a question Posted by MarcD [Email] (#835) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MarcD) on Fri, 7 Jun 2013 10:31:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Good Morning All!
Long time lurker, occasional poster here, mainly on the C900 and 9-3 boards.
I looked at a 2002 9-5 Wagon with the 2.3 turbo engine. 154K Car was in pretty good shape for its age, two owners with the current one for the last 8 years. Lots of parts replaced like the alternator, turbo and ABS module.
There is one big question; on the passenger side of the engine more towards the firewall there is an oil leak of significant proportions. The owner's mechanic told him he could drive the car safely, just adding oil, a quart every 500 miles. I couldn't get a good view as the engine mount was in the way. The serpentine belt looked fine with no oil on it and the alternator look clean as well. If I were to purchase the car this would need to be fixed. I've done much on my Saabs over the years and don't mind digging in a bit. I couldn't get a good view as the engine mount was in the way. Is there any way to rule out the head gasket and timing cover? I do have a great Saab mechanic that I use when I don't have the time to do the work myself, could he rule either of the two out without too much work?
Any thoughts or experiences are welcome and helpful!
The car did have the vibration in drive when stopped but a bit of research last night reveled that to be a come issue, I'm hoping with a bit of re-programming it might go away.
TIA!
Marc
