The Neutral Safety Switch. It is a multi switch that is " in between" the shifter and the trans. It tells the computer what position the shifter is in. It is a physical multi contact switch that does go, but usually in older cars. It is located on top of the trans. If some changes the shifter position and you watch you can see the rod that changes....etc.
But I don't know the later models that well with the paddle shifters. ... Hopefully someone else can chime in.
