Hi, I am at my wit's end with this car, PLEASE PLEASE help!
I am the original owner of a 1999 9-5 SE with 112k miles on it. I have taken it to the Saab dealer in every city where I have lived religiously for every maintenance and I have never put anything other than premium gas in this car. I adore this car. But in the past year it has started giving me problems that are really stressing me out because I never know when the car is going to start/stall.
Within the last few months or two the car has been stalling randomly. Last couple months it was only doing it when cold. Now it's doing it when hot as well. I just went to the store and I had to turn the key and start it 6-10 times and pump the gas 1-3 times and finally the car stayed running. I would not be so stressed about this if someone could fix it. The problem is the Saab dealer/mechanic cannot figure out what is wrong. I have been servicing this car at this same dealer for years, so I trust what they are telling me when they say they are stumped.
Like I said, the car is stalling when it's cold or hot, it turns on and then the RPMs surge up and down and it stalls. No codes thrown whatsoever.
Let me mention that this car has already had the CPS replaced so it is not that. The mechanic has checked everything, from cleaning the throttle body to checking the vacuum lines and all the valves (some of which have been replaced) and he says they are fine. Now maybe it's the fuel pump? But the mechanic says his testing indicates the fuel pump is working fine.
The last time it was at the dealer he said I should put fuel injector cleaner in the car to see if that helps. I did that and since then it's actually been stalling more (but it may just be coincidence). He also said that b/c they don't know what it is it may have to be a process of elimination, starting with replacing the throttle body, which is like 800 dollars (by the way in the past year I have easily spent more than $1500 on this car, with new radiator, fuel filler pipe, valves, etc).
Please please tell me how I should proceed. Is it time to think about buying another car?????
