I checked the battery voltage. 12.40 when stone cold and sitting overnight - so it's most likely not the battery. I also checked the resistance to the block from the negative battery post: 0.05 ohms - so I'm guessing that cable is OK too. When I get back home I'll jack up the car and check resistance from the positive post to the starter. I'll try my autoranging Fluke too.
I don't live in a particularly hot climate (Northeast OH) and sometimes after a drive and it's particularly hot I'll leave the hood up in the garage to prevent excessive thermal soak. I'm hoping for at least three years out of this battery.
The battery on my BMW 3 lives in the trunk, a much better place for it and I got nine (9) years out of the last one. No such luck on the Saab due to battery placement.
Sounds like slow starters are just inherent in 2004 HOT engine 4 cylinder 9-5s.
