Won't start-no power to fuel pump

Background: 2002 9-5 Aero, 2.3L, running along OK. Accelerating away from stop light...missed rather severely. Struggled along a bit, put in clutch and built up rpms a bit, limped off road to park it. Died a couple of times in the process, and started with difficulty. After parked and a couple minutes of 'thinking about the problem,' tried to start up-no luck. Although it turned over a bit, didn't catch.
When turning ignition on, did not hear fuel pump - picked up rear seat, tapped fuel pump couple times, tried again. Didn't hear it. Happened to have a meter in the car-turned ignition on, THINK I got probes on the flat male pins for the fuel pump A/C in and out (hard to hold connector and two probes securely-needed a third hand) and got no reading on the meter.
About half an hour after original re-start attempt, got a 'almost' start-sounded like it fired a couple of times, but never caught.
FYI-fuel pump replace within past 6 months/10,000 miles.
Question: With ignition on, shouldn't I be getting power to the connector to the fuel pump? If so, and I'm not getting power, what should I check next. Any other thoughts would also be welcome.
Naturally, car is sitting in a parking lot of a local mall, but am planning on dragging it home tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for all comments.
Rick
