Fuel line blockage/check valve problem?

Question re: possible fuel line blockage? Check valve?
Background: 2002 9-5 Aero (eventually)ran/died, etc. Pretty much determined was fuel delivery problem - no pressure at Schrader(?)valve on fuel rail, cylinders seemed dry, etc. Replaced fuel pump. After eventually removing protective cover on bottom of fuel pump, new pump pumped strong flow out of discharge side of new fuel pump.
Removed front connection of new fuel filter, turned key...no fuel. Removed rear connection of new fuel filter, turned key..., no fuel pumping out. Appears fuel is not getting from new fuel pump to the new fuel filter.
Is there some sort of check valve in the outbound side (TOWARD the engine) of the fuel line? If so, how do you get the fuel line out, or can it be blown out?
Additional note re: "background" before replacing fuel pump, car drove very roughly, except for a somewhat "sweet spot" from 1500 to 2500 RPM.
Any thoughts/help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Rick
