Just saw this thread (quiet afternoon at work). Also don't rule out the battery cables corroding internally (they are known for doing this over time).
Compromised cables can prevent the battery from getting a full charge especially on short trips and can give you symptoms that are a lot like those of a failing CPS (something about not always having enough juice to crank the engine and run the fuel system at the same time) .
In my case, replacing the CPS didn't help, and the car was always fine after a long drive, just not short ones.
Finally did a voltage drop test on the cables, and replaced the positive. Car has consistently started immediately since.
