AC Condenser / Line leak Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Thu, 10 Sep 2015 19:30:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The AC in our '05 Aero quit on one of the hottest days of the year. I got some 134a and did a recharge to bring it back to life. It was short lived. I heard hissing coming from the bottom of the condenser area but couldn't pinpoint it. I'll get another can of 134a and some Murphy's oil soap in a spray bottle and go looking in earnest.
My question regards the difficulty level in swapping out the condenser. I checked the WIS and it doesn't look that bad. I've had the headlights out before and that's really easy as are the grill parts. I've also had the fans out to replace the radiator. Is condenser replacement easier than replacing the radiator?
My plan is to find the exact source of the leak and then replace either the return line or the condenser - depending on what's failed. Both are available with warranties from recyclers and prices are quite reasonable (<$100). I'll have an indie pull a vacuum and recharge properly once the new parts are installed.
Do I need a lift to drop the condenser out the bottom? I can get the bottom of the car about 28 inches off the floor. Is that high enough? If not I'll need to have an indie do the part swap too.
Thanks,
Doug
