+1 . . . and use Techron and Fall / Winter gasoline Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Thu, 29 Oct 2015 18:23:09 In Reply to: Hard starts in cool weather-Check your battery, adl6009 [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 27 Oct 2015 06:12:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
One of our cars sat for several weeks with Summer fuel in the tank. Then we had several mornings of cool temps (30's and 40's), and we experienced hard starting. Turning key to "on" several times before cranking made no difference, so I doubted that it was a check valve. It was enough that I checked battery and alternator condition, but they were both very good.
The car always ran well once started, and it always started well when warm. Finally I tried a container of Techron and filled with fresh gas. Next morning at high 30's it started up with one twist of the key. Lower volatility summer gas in colder weather seems the most likely culprit.
