Update 5: Need suggestion for machine shop in Columbus! Had to really play with the trans positioning to get the front area separated. What I didn't realize was that there is an aligning sleeve, so the trans has to pop off the engine totally laterally. Also, the trans will get hung up on the input shaft so you have to support the weight of the trans when you're pulling it. After that it was a matter of lowering it which wasn't too hard, since I had a friend. I had wrapped a blanket around the trans and then tied it to the engine support beam. Then I removed the jack and slowly untied the blanket until the trans landed on a soft box I had placed underneath it. Then it snuck out behind the front left strut.
I'll post pics later, but the pressing thing right now is that I need to bring the flywheel to a machine shop. Even though the surface looks and feels immaculate (no discoloration, no nicks or scars) people keep telling me that it needs to be machined so that the new friction plate takes a good set. Opinions welcome on that front, too...
So - if you know a place in Columbus Ohio that can do the machining, please let me know! I'm in a bit of a rush to get this done.
Thank you!
