Re: Update 6: Trans is in. Wrong poly bushings though? Since my flywheel looked great I just took some 400 grit to the whole thing to smooth out things out and give a nice surface for the new clutch to mate to. I was nervous about putting an aero-sized clutch in an LPT-worn flywheel since the outer ~6mm would never have been worn. But after cleaning and sanding, I'm really not worried. There was <0.001 difference between surface height of the worn surface and unworn. In the end the only thing I risk by not machining is a warped or unbalanced assembly... but I had none of these problems prior to pulling the trans so I think I'll be OK. I guess I can update if I remember to.
The much more pressing (ha) issue is that the proparts subframe bushings I bought are WAY TOO BIG for the subframe. I bought from eEuro, (61340000PU), and there's no bloody way these things are fitting in my subframe. It's 100% unrealistic. Now I've got to get on the phone wit eEuro and proparts and figure out what the heck is going on. Really unhappy about this since I'm working on my daily here... Been taking the motorcycle to work and it's 35F out.
I also replaced the release bearing in the trans. The old one looked and felt good, but a replacement was super easy so I did it. I also bought a new rear engine mount which I'll put in once I get the subframe ready. Unfortunately, because I didn't pull the flywheel, I didn't have a change to replace the main rear seal. Mine doesn't currently leak (to my knowledge) so hopefully it lasts quite a bit longer.
It's also worth noting that those flywheel bolts are HELL to get loose. They're the largest I've seen on the car, and they absolutely require an impact gun to get off. No combination of breaker bar and hydraulic jack will break those puppies.
If anyone has had a similar experience with the proparts poly subframe bushings, please chime in!!! Otherwise I'm gonna be stuck til I can get a hold of these companies.
