The different valves fail in different ways and one common way is that the electric coil gets tired when hot. Not that the valve stick close/open or minor leaks.
Especially in the 9-5 case, I see the coil stops operating the pintle when hot and goes back to perfect working order when cold.
Sometimes I can remove it and apply battery power quickly by dragging the test wire over the battery post. That way it creates a rapid clicking warming up the coil and I can hear how the click gets fainter and fainter until it stops all together.
Sometimes if I supply vacuum to one side, the coil is weak enough to not open the pintle compared to if I apply vacuum to the other side.
