DIC Trivia - Accidental test of TK3.4 in 2006 Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Sat, 23 Jan 2016 10:50:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Embarrassing, but this might help someone.
I had a TK3.4 DIC preventively removed from a 1999 SE without any observed failure - was saving it as a backup for that car only. In mid December I was troubleshooting a pesky vacuum leak on my daughter's 2006 SC, and I must have been too tired, because I got my DIC boxes mixed up AND didn't check the SEM label on the DIC I put back in. About three weeks later with -15F weather she complained of a CEL. When I checked the CEL and DTC's I got an unexpected trifecta of P0340, P1312, and P1334 - screaming DIC. It was too cold to do much just then, and the car isn't that close to me, but my daughter wasn't going to drive the car for a week-and-a-half, so I had some time to think.
It took me a day or two to digest the code information, and then to go back into the garage and check the other two DIC's on the shelf. Sure enough, both were TK3.7E's manufactured in 2013 and 2104 respectively. The 2013 should have been in the 2006 . . . whoops!
I put the TK3.7E back in today with temps at a balmy 18 degrees. All seems well now. Important information to pass along is that the car ran and the codes actually set - although I wouldn't bet that all TK3.4's will do this all the time. This unit will go to my local electronic waste collection site.
I will be more careful to check that label in the future!
