Occassional coolant spew from a V-6 Posted by FiftyEight [Email] (#5858) [Profile/Gallery] (more from FiftyEight) on Mon, 16 May 2016 20:14:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I can't seem to diagnose the cause for a problem I'm having with the V-6. Occasionally getting a half-pint or so coolant spewing out of the expansion tank cap, but the temp gauge doesn't register above normal. I know when it happens because the SID give a coolant low message, and when I get home & pop the hood I can see it spewed from the expansion tank cap.
I replaced the cap, the radiator, a few hoses, and the thermostat (what a PITA on that engine!) and pressure tested the system - no leaks.
I've also checked cylinder compression & looked for signs of any head gasket issues that might be letting compression into the cooling system - all looks good - and re-torqued the heads (none of the bolts seemed loose.)
The fans are working properly, there's no noise or leakage from the water pump (but I'll probably try replacing it next.)
Anyone seen this issue or have any other ideas?
TIA,
George
