Looking for some thoughts. Bought this car used two weekends ago with 111k. First week of driving has been a pleasure. I've owned a steady stream of Saab's through the years and have always worked on them myself.
Today, the car suddenly developed a rather sudden pull to the left on acceleration and an equal sudden shift to the right on deceleration. The general steering geometry feels like it shifts very suddenly. Over the weekend, I had put the car up and checked things like worn CV covers and tie rod ends and all looked great.
I'm thinking that maybe the engine mounts have failed which is allowing the engine to move under load and then shift back off-load which also changes the steering geometry enough to cause this pulling action.
A sudden serious ball joint failure could also be a culprit, I would think, but the car tracks and drives very well, even when turning...it only is noticeable when going in a straight line and I accelerate and then decelerate. It doesn't have to be a hard acceleration, either.
Any other ideas? I am going to put the car up in the air tomorrow and start poking around and would love some thoughts about where to look first.
