So far, Job Done:
I finished just about two hours ago. Here's what I learned:
1. You have to free up the dryer end of the line first.
2. You have to take out the intercooler inlet line that's next to the dryer to allow working room for the evap-dryer line.
3. Once the driver's side end is free and unimpeded, you snake the passenger side end down the opening between the belts and frame, and pull it out of the tri-angular subframe opening beneath the belts. The line bends upward at the flex-hose portion to facilitate removal. This is "the trick".
4. Once the passenger side end is pulled down, the line can be snaked and pulled out toward the passenger side of the car through the tri-angular opening in the subframe beneath the belts.
5. I removed a lot of stuff: Passengers turn signal and headlight, Turbo inlet hose, coolant, upper radiator hose, radiator fans, battery cover, both underbody panels, Battery cooler duct ('02 and up have these), and as mentioned intercooler discharge hose to throttle body inlet pipe.
6. I made a guard for the line where the ATF cooler line rubbed against it and made it fail in the first place. I used a 3/8 ID hose slit long ways and held in place by cable ties. Outside of that I formed a sheet metal tube and retained it with twisted wire. It will prevent abrasion from the ATF cooling lines in the future.
I took my time and did photos and cleaned things as I went so it took about 7 hours.
Tomorrow I head off to a friend's shop for 45 minutes of vacuum followed by a recharge.
