I am in the process of installing a Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) in my 2001 base model automatic. I had installed a bypass button last summer per a Saabnet instruction and it is great, but thought a newer NSS might be a good thing. On removal, discovered why the shifter had gotten very sloppy a few months ago. There is nothing in the cap at the end of the cable that fits over the NSS link ball. Empty.
I checked my '99 SE parts car, and discovered that the cable end cap had a little cylinder of metal, as from a tin can, with tape inside. I cannot easily remove it to install on my '01. Am tempted to just wrap the ball on the NSS with duct tape until there is a snug fit to the cable end, understanding that the cable end rotates around the link.
Has anyone had experience with this problem? Is there a part I can obtain?
